Radiant Heating

Radiant heating systems supply heat directly to the floor or to panels in the wall or ceiling of a house. The systems depend largely on radiant heat transfer—the delivery of heat directly from the hot surface to the people and objects in the room via infrared radiation. Radiant heating is the effect you feel from the warmth of a hot stovetop element from across the room. When radiant heating is located within the floor, it is often called radiant floor heating or simply floor heating.

Other forms of Radiant Heating are Hydronic Base Boards and Hydronic Fan Coils.

What Is It?

Radiant heating depends on radiant heat transfer, which uses infrared radiation to deliver heat from the source to the people and objects in the room. It is the effect you feel when you feel the warmth coming from a hot stove. In other words, radiant heating is a way to broadcast heat.

In a radiant heating system, heat emanates from panels in the ceiling, floor, or walls. These systems have existed for decades and are becoming increasingly popular as people look for ways to heat their homes without an expensive furnace. Technology has advanced to the point that there are now radiant cooling systems.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, radiant heating is more efficient than forced-air heating because it eliminates duct losses. It also provides better air quality and is a healthier option for people with allergies. Forced-air systems cause allergens to circulate through the air, while radiant heating systems do not. Some radiant heating systems use heated water to warm interiors. There are many types of radiant heating systems ranging from cables to pipes to panels. They can also be made from a wide array of materials and be installed in different places. No matter what it is or where it is, we’ll know how to install, replace, or service it.

Boilers, Gas, and Electric

Radiant heating offers unparalleled comfort and efficiency, making it a sought-after solution for both residential and commercial spaces. At Hardy Quality Air, we specialize in the installation, maintenance, and repair of radiant heating systems, including those powered by boilers, gas, and electric sources.

Boilers serve as the heart of many radiant heating setups, efficiently circulating hot water through tubing beneath floors or within walls. Gas-powered radiant heating systems harness the energy of natural gas to generate heat, offering a reliable and cost-effective solution. Similarly, electric radiant heating systems utilize electrical resistance to produce warmth, providing a versatile option for areas where gas lines may not be accessible.

Getting Started

Many clients call us just to discuss the technology involved with radiant heat, even if they have no intention of getting a system, but many have been so impressed by the technology that they get a system. Give us a call at (831) 722-3242 with your questions.
